ONE OF MY HUSBAND’S MANY TALENTS

My husband, like all husbands, has a hobby . . . I like to call it a “gift” . . . he just thinks his hobby is out of necessity. He does not play any sports on a regular basis (even though through the years he has participated in various sports such as softball, tennis, volleyball, golf) – nor does he hunt or fish. Now I know you are asking what does he do beside watch the San Jose Sharks hockey team? What is his hobby? Well, he loves to work with WOOD!!! He is right in thinking that his hobby originally started out of necessity – like all newlyweds we needed bookcases (he was still in college when we married) but he had no tools and we had no money. He was not raised around anyone who worked around wood or even did home repairs (his parents always had a handyman/gardener). He never took woodworking shop in school, but oh what a natural gift he has. We still have one of the two bookcases he made (our daughter has the other one). I could list all the many items he has made over the years, not only for his home and family but for our church, our friends, even strangers in need . . . he loves to work with wood and I have to admit that I take advantage of his talent . . .

I want to share a couple of his recent completed projects that he made:

Above is a picture of the mirror image “chest of drawers” he made for our remodeled master bedroom. What is truly amazing is that he only had a picture of one set of drawers that I had torn out of a magazine about ten years ago. I had forgotten that I wanted him to make me two of these sets drawers instead of one, but he did not. I truly thought it would be too complicated for him. Oh yea of little faith . . . he did it!!!!!! And they are very beautiful (my picture does not do them justice). They fit the space perfect . . . but guess what – he didn’t stop there. He went on the build the below pictured seating bench for the end of our bed.

Now this is no ordinary seating bench to throw the pillows & bedspread on, oh no it has a secret, it is actually a dirty clothes hamper. Is that not cleaver and look he made it match the design he created for the “chest of drawers. Like I said at the beginning, my husband has a true gift . . . he has already begun drawing up the plans for his next little project and I will share it when it is completed.

That’s all for now . . . thanks for stopping by and getting to know a little more about my dear hubby and one of his many exceptional talents . . . till later, HUGS & KISSES . . .

P.S. . . Oh one other thing, he now has lots and lots of tools, so many in fact that we cannot get the car in the garage and every time he starts a new project-he needs a new tool (kind of reminds me of me and when I scrapbook-hehehe) . . .

FALL IS IN THE AIR

This is one of my favorite times of the year . . . after the hot days of summer its beginning to get cooler – the air is crisper in the morning and evening making walks across the dam more comfortable . . . the acorns are dropping off the oak tree and squirrels are gathering them for winter (and my cat is having a ball chasing the squirrels) . . . on my drive to and from work I can see the leaves in the trees along the way changing colors everyday . . . this is truly a beautiful time of the year here in Northern California . . . it is also at this time to year that my nesting instincts begin to kick in and I start spending more time indoors decorating the house for the holidays, cooking, reading, sewing and scrapbooking of course . . .

Back in August, in preparation for fall, I took a class a PSB where I learned to make these adorable fall borders from Barb using my Expression’s Cricket machine . . .

Aren’t they the cutest things!!!! . . . thanks Barb for taking time out of your busy schedule to help us learn how to use our Cricket machines

Well that’s all for now . . . thanks for stopping by . . .

MOTHER & DAUGHTER

Here are a couple of layouts of my daughter and granddaughter:

This first layout is of my granddaughter, Kyra, having her very first school picture taken . . . Kyra was only 4 at the time and was a little frighten by everything that was going on . . . I had been admiring a layout that the owner of Paradise Scrapbook Boutique had created and was on displayed in her store using Basic Gray & Pink Paislee papers . . . Karen was gracious enough to let me copy her layout which was perfect for Kyra’s first school picture . . .

This next layout is of my daughter, Brooke (Kyra’s mother) . . . over at My Creative Scrapbook they were having an unusual contest . . . you could scraplift any of their designers layout and submit it for a chance to win some fabalous goodies . . . well I thought this was a wonderful idea and after looking at all the designers creations I chose Robbie Herring’s April 2009 layout using Pink Paislee papers . . . as things happen my life got interrupted and I missed the deadline for submitting my layout, however I have a wonderful layout of my duaghter . . .

Well that’s all for now . . . thanks for stopping by . . until later Hugs & Kisses . . .

BACK BLOGGING AGAIN – YEA!

GREETINGS . . . well it certainly has been a long time since I last wrote on this blog . . . so much has happened in the last few months that I don’t even know where to begin . . . but I have this overwhelming need to begin blogging again! Back in the later part of February I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer and in April I underwent a laparoscopic robotic assisted hysterectomy at Davis University in Sacramento. I was a very lucky lady . . . I ended up having stage 1/level 1/non-aggressive cancer which meant in my case that I did not have to have either chemo or radiation after the hysterectomy . . . YAHOO!!!!!! . . . I will be having a very up close and personal relationship with my gynecologist every 4 months for the next 3 years . . . fortunately I like her a lot!!!! I have been truly blessed with very loving family and friends who have helped me get through this. My poor dear hubby sure has been putting up with a lot from me . . .

Oh and about 4 days before I was diagnosed with cancer my husband and I signed a contract to begin the remodeling of our 2 bathrooms and the master bedroom (the bathrooms share a wall and there was a major water leak) . . . soooooooo things were just a little crazy around this household for a few months . . . I will post before/after pictures soon . . .

There has been one thing that has kept me semi sane . . . I have been scrapbooking . . . not a lot – but enough to keep me destressed . . . I plan during the next week to take pictures of the projects I have completed and post them on this blog . . . until next time thanks for stopping by . . .

Hugs & Kisses . . . LindaB
